Serena was someone who would have easily fallen into line at the Phantom Corps, But Echo choosing to fight Draven during the ability test after the acid fire wielding woman quickly defeated Serena, gave her something else to latch onto besides Delilah's teachings and the growing arrogance of some of the other girls now that they had some kind of power they could freely abuse.

Serena has held onto her own hopes and dreams because of this, and wants to help Echo as she has helped her.
